Join us for a presentation at Lakewood UCC following the worship service to learn more about the obstacles Colorado Dreamers face in gaining access to postsecondary education and how you can help. This presentation will be given by members of the Metropolitan State University of Denver’s (MSU Denver’s) Dreamer Network. This organization is comprised of dedicated professionals within the university whose goal is to advocate for equitable policies, educate the community, plan events and raise funds to support Dreamers students. MSU Denver serves a larger number of undocumented students who qualify for in-state tuition than any other 2- or 4-year institution in Colorado

Introducing Brewatitudes, a monthly gathering to discuss theological topics in a casual atmosphere. Each month we will gather at a local brewery and engage in topics at the intersection of theology, living, faith, and culture. Our first meeting will be June 3, from 3-4:30 pm at Green Mountain Beer Co. Food trucks will be available, beer is optional, openness to good conversation a must. Discussion will be facilitated by Rev. Mollie, contact her with any questions!

In honor of Earth Day on Sunday, April 22, the Care for Creation Ministry presents the following presentation by Jill Engelstad: Girl Power for a Healthy Planet. Of the seven billion people living on the planet, one billion are prosperous, five billion are moving or have moved into middle-income status, one billion are stuck in extreme poverty. The issue of extreme poverty, where one lives on less than $1.90 a day, is morally relevant in a world with sufficient planetary resources and practically relevant in a globalized world.

New! Book Club

After all the great conversations at the 2017 Women’s Retreat, we talked about starting a book club. Well, we have chosen a book and a date for the first meeting! The booked we picked is by Brené Brown and it’s called Braving the Wilderness. Brown is a research professor at the University of Houston. She has spent the past sixteen years studying courage, vulnerability, empathy, and shame, and is the author of four books: The Gifts of Imperfection, Daring Greatly, Rising Strong, and Braving the Wilderness. She also has some amazing Ted Talks! More details on the book club will be announced soon.

Martin Luther: The Idea that Changed the World PBS is airing a docudrama about Martin Luther in celebration of the 500th Anniversary of his historic posting of his 95 Theses. We will watch the film together in two parts on consecutive Sundays and have conversation following each section. Child care will be provided.
