Do you love Lakewood UCC and want to dig a little deeper into what it means to become a member here? Well, we have an opportunity for you. Pastor Curt will be hosting a no-obligation luncheon after worship for anyone who’s curious. All of your deepest, darkest questions will be answered. All of the arcane mysteries of membership will be revealed. Those who choose to will have an opportunity to formally join the church at a later date. Lunch will be provided, with childcare upon request. RSVP to Curt Preston.
Taizé-style worship comes to us from the Taizé community, an ecumenical Christian group based in France. Songs consist of simple, repeated phrases, and instead of a sermon, there’s an emphasis on contemplation and silence. Some describe it as a massage for the soul. Over the last couple years, this has become one of our most popular worship services. Everyone is invited to join us as we quiet our minds, still our hearts, and wait for the wind of God to blow among us.

Pentecost is more than a fiery dove descending on the heads of the Apostles and imparting the ability to speak in tongues. Pentecost is alive for us today in Lakewood UCC in the ways that invite us to act on God’s Spirit of Divine Love. We recognize that the Holy Spirit is accessible to everyone on our community. We act on that Spirit as the hands, head, and feet of God in the world. But what expectations do we have for resolving the problems and challenges we face? Come join us this Sunday as guest preacher Dr. Paul Michalec preaches on a modern interpretation of Pentecost as a gift given to all, a call to action, and the challenge of accepting the truth that our actions may not change the world in our lifetime.
You, Me, and We: Healthy Boundaries in Today’s World
Join us June 9 from 3-4:30 at Landlocked Ales (3225 S. Wadsworth Blvd. Lakewood, CO 80227) for a discussion on setting boundaries in today’s fast-paced and interconnected world. We will discuss the value of setting boundaries both in our personal lives and as an open and inclusive community. Is it possible to say “no” and adhere to Christian values? Food is available nearby, beer is optional, openness to good conversation a must. The discussion this month will be facilitated by Cory & Christina Smith.
Sunday, June 2, 10:15 am
This Sunday is a big day in the life of our church. We’ll have a baptism and also will receive communion. Plus, we have a congregational meeting following church. In John’s gospel, Jesus prays for his disciples “that they may all be one.” Not only is he talking about those disciples, but ALL of Jesus’ disciples, including us. Join us this Sunday as Pastor Curt preaches on sacraments, unity in the midst of diversity, and what oneness in Christ means to us.

We are blessed to have such great facilities at Lakewood UCC. Please come join the good fellowship and help us do some cleaning and maintenance on the Church grounds and inside the building. The Board of Church Operations will provide lunch. Please bring any tools that you may have. We suggest parking on the east side parking lot to avoid the neighborhood paint recycling that will take place that day in the west side parking lot. Please note! If you are planning to take part in the cleanup efforts, please sign up at the Welcome Center, so we know how much lunch to prepare!
Here is the information important to remember: Wear red, bring a water bottle, wear sun gear (sunscreen, hat, cool shades), and bring snacks if you’ll need to eat before noon.

Please plan to join us for the Congregation Meeting following worship on June 2. We will vote in the slate of officers, receive a progress report from the Endowment Committee, and hear an update about our involvement with Colorado Faith Communities United to End Gun Violence. See you there!
All are invited to join us after the service at a local restaurant as we eat a good meal and get to know each other better. This month we will be meeting at the Valley Inn at 1997 S Wadsworth Blvd. Contact Marcia Forney for details or sign up at the Welcome Center.
