Yes, we’re watching The Matrix (1999, 136 minutes, rated R) tonight. And why are we watching The Matrix? What does the story of a computer hacker who discovers that reality is an illusion have to do with Jesus? Everything! Join us in the Youth Room for the triumphant conclusion of our Summer Film Series. Jacob Liechty and Nancy True will facilitate what promises to be a very interesting discussion. If you need childcare, please let us know as soon as possible.
If you’re a man who likes breakfast, and you enjoy the company of other men who like breakfast, then we have an event for you. Cunningly, we call it “Men’s Breakfast.” It happens pretty much every month on the second Saturday. Which, in August, happens to be this Saturday! So come as you are to the Village Inn (7831 W. Alameda Ave.) and hang out with the men of Lakewood UCC over a plate of scrambled eggs and a steaming mug of coffee. Or really, anything else on the menu. All ages, sizes, sports affiliations, political beliefs, and facial hair choices are welcome. Contact: Daryl Foelske.
Out-to-Lunch Bunch is where Lakewood UCC goes to blow off steam, relax, chat, catch up, and hang out. Join us after worship at Jus’ Cookin’s Restaurant (840 Tabor St.) for good food and good conversation. Everyone is welcome! Contact: Karen Coiner, Len Ewald.
For those of you who don’t know, a “lay” person is basically any member of a church who isn’t the pastor. And, on this special Sunday, we have lay persons lined up to do everything from the Call to Worship to the Prayer of Dedication, with Max Michalec, Judi Baxter, and Daniel Sweeney telling their stories of the God who called to them from the midst of the storm. You won’t want to miss this one!
Welcome to Lakewood United Church of Christ. We are a vibrant, inclusive, progressive Christian church. If you’re a person of deep faith or shallow faith; old faith, new faith, or renewed faith; questioning faith or no faith at all; we hope you’ll come by and join us on the journey.
