SUMMARY:Adult Education: "Cool Diets for a Hot Planet"
DESCRIPTION:Say what??? How does what we eat impact the planet’s health and climate change? Following on from the discussion about Pope Francis’ encyclical letter\, this session will look at how climate change is affecting the quality of foods locally and globally\, and how our current food systems and diet choices provide opportunities for each of us to reduce the impact on greenhouse gas emissions and environmental degradation. We don’t all have to become vegetarians\, but there are choices we make as “omnivores” that can alter our diet-environment footprint. The session will be led by Dr. Nancy Krebs\, who is starting to tackle these topics in her nutrition research.

There was so much interest in the topic that the group has decided to meet again and discuss possible next steps. Whether or not you were part of the original class\, join us as we plot and brainstorm about forming an Eco-Justice Task Force at Lakewood UCC\, offering further environmental education\, partnering with South of Sixth Sustainable Neighborhoods\, and taking personal actions. If you’re interested but can’t attend this meeting\, please contact Janet Wise.

DESCRIPTION:We’re delighted to announce an upcoming opportunity for those who want to connect with their Muslim neighbors. After our worship service\, Lakewood UCC will be visiting the Islamic Center of Golden (619 19th Street\, Golden\, CO 80401). We’ll see the inside of a mosque\, listen to the call to prayer live in Arabic\, hear verses being recited from the Qur’an\, watch the noon prayer (and try it if we want!)\, smell Arabian incense\, taste Arabian coffee and Pakistani tea\, and more! Anyone who wants to is free to arrange carpooling. Please bring a sack lunch\, dress modestly\, and remove your shoes upon entering the facility. We’d like to get a sense of how many people to expect\, so those who are interested should sign up on the Welcome Center or reply to this email.
