SUMMARY:Summer Film Series 2019: City Slickers
DESCRIPTION:An annual staple of our summer adult education offerings has been the Summer Film Series. This year our series will focus on cinematic answers to the question\, “What’s the point of life?” In each film\, the protagonist is struggling with a version of this question. Some are funny. Some are sad. All will help us engage the questions of life\, death\, and what we do with what we’ve been given in between.\n\n \n\nAugust 12\n\nCity Slickers (PG-13)\n\nMitch (Billy Crystal) is a middle-aged big-city radio ads salesman. He and his friends Ed and Phil are having mid-life crises. They decide the best birthday gift is to go on a two-week holiday in the wild west driving cattle from New Mexico to Colorado. There they meet cowboy Curly who not only teaches them how to become real cowboys\, but also one or two other things about life in the open air of the west.\n\n

He shuffled through life in a lithium-induced coma until his mother’s death inspired a vacation from the pills to see what might happen. He began to feel the pain he had longed for and began to have a genuine relationship with a girl who had some problems of her own.\n\n\n\n

DESCRIPTION:We’re back at our favorite spot–Prospect Park in Wheat Ridge (44th Ave. and Robb St.) This service has a relaxed and casual feeling as we sing along with guitars\, hang out at picnic tables\, and enjoy worship in the glory of God’s great cathedral of creation. Feel free to bring a camping chair or other seating if you need a seat with back support. Root beer floats are provided and bring your own picnic lunch– and wear a bolo tie if you’ve got one! She tries hat-making\, bridge\, and then cooking lessons at Cordon Bleu. There she discovers her passion. In 2002\, Julie Powell\, (Amy Adams) is about to turn 30 and is underemployed with an unpublished novel. She decides to cook her way through “Mastering the Art of French Cooking” in a year and to blog about it. We go back and forth between these stories of two women learning to cook and finding success. Sympathetic\, loving husbands support them both\, and friendships\, too\, add zest.\n\n \n\n\n\n
