Digging into our personal and collective stories will help us stay rooted and give us courage as we put our faith into action\, lead with love\, and care for creation in the many ways we are called as the Body of Christ in 2025 and beyond. Ash Wednesday is when we look squarely at our morality  and say\, “From dust we have come\, and to dust we will return.” We are marked and anointed with ashes (from last year’s palm branches)\, a physical reminder of where we have come\, and where we will return. While seemingly somber\, this is a chance for us to be honest with God and ourselves\, we are here on this earth for just a short time and ponder how we will live.\n\nYou are invited to come by the church from 11:00 am-1:00 pm on Wednesday\, March 5 to receive the imposition of ashes from one of the pastors. Ashes-2-Go containers will be available starting Sunday\, March 2\, so that you can do the imposition of ashes with your household at home.

We as people of faith\, will lift up this family’s story: Mohammad\, Ruba and their children. We will demonstrate hope and love in the midst of the rhetoric of fear and hate that has overtaken our politics.\nThis Sunday and next\, in addition to accepting cash donations (or checks made out to Lakewood United Church of Christ (memo line Syrian family) and Walmart gift cards of any denomination\, we will be collecting household goods for the family. DESCRIPTION:Palm Sunday begins what is known in the church as “Holy Week.” This is the time of Lent when we mark Jesus’ final days before his crucifixion and resurrection on Easter. We’ll celebrate Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem in worship. Please join us for our annual potluck brunch and Easter Egg Hunt. We are not going to assign dishes for this event. You are welcome and encouraged to bring your favorite dish. Remember to label your dish with the ingredients so that we don’t have any allergic reactions. All dishes should be ready and completely cooked.\n\nWe will set up at 9:00 am on Saturday\, April 12th\, and could use extra hands. If you are unable to help then\, we are also seeking help to clean up after the brunch.

DESCRIPTION:Maundy Thursday is the day we remember the harrowing events of Jesus’ final days\, as we receive his new commandment\, “that we may love one another.” At 6:30 pm\, we’ll share a simple supper\, as Jesus did with his disciples. At 7:30 pm\, we’ll move to our Tenebrae service (from the Latin word meaning “shadows”)\, walking through the shadows of Jesus’ last days again\, listening to lessons\, and watching as lights are extinguished one by one. Communion will also be offered. Please feel free to come to just the supper\, just the service\, or both.
