SUMMARY:Vacation Bible School
DESCRIPTION:June 12-15\, 9:00-11:30. Children will explore the short yet prophetic message of Micah 6:8- “The Lord has told you\, O mortal\, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice\, and to love kindness\, and to walk humbly with your God?” This passage has historically had special significance to the UCC\, but it certainly has universal appeal. Children will explore the following daily themes: Doing Justice\, Loving Kindness\, Walking Humbly With God\, and Living the Good Life. The children will begin each morning in a large group for welcome\, announcements\, music\, and opening presentation. They will then divide into three pre-assigned “family groups” consisting of children age 4 – 6th grade. Each group will rotate through three stations: games\, craft\, and activity. All the groups will eat snack together between rotations two and three. At the end of the morning\, children will come back together for songs and dismissal. On day 4 parents are invited to the closing worship at 11:15\, during which the children will present some of what they learned. The program will include a mission project assembling bags of basic necessities to give to those experiencing homelessness. DESCRIPTION:Cinco de Mayo is observed to commemorate the Mexican Army‘s unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5\, 1862 during the French and Mexican War.  The ragtag Mexican Army was significantly outnumbered by a better equipped French Army twice its size.  As Time magazine remarked\, “The Puebla victory came to symbolize unity and pride for what seemed like a Mexican David defeating a French Goliath.”  While the holiday is rather insignificant in Mexico\, it has become a celebration of Mexican culture in the United States. DESCRIPTION:We will be hosting two Ways to Give meetings on Sunday\, April 21\, 2017\, at Lakewood UCC. There will be two sessions\, one at 3:00 pm and one at 6:30 pm. During each 45-minute session\, Bob Foland of IRA Specialists will walk participants through alternative giving strategies such as Charitable Gift Annuities and IRA Charitable Gift Transfers. Your gift does not have to be cash! SUMMARY:Good Friday Open Sanctuary
DESCRIPTION:Good Friday is the day that Jesus died on the cross. It is one of the most solemn days of the year. Matthew tells us that on the day Jesus was crucified\, from noon until three\, darkness came over the whole land. The sanctuary will be open from 3pm-7pm for meditation and contemplation through a series of activities and prayer stations including candle lighting\, communion\, journaling and more.

SUMMARY:Children's Faith Formation
DESCRIPTION:Jesus said\, “Let the children come to me.”\nOn Sunday mornings\, childcare for children 3 years and younger is available in the nursery from 9:30 a.m. until the end of the service. Visiting children are welcome. Please accompany your children to and from the nursery. Pre-K through 6th-grade children start in worship and then leave during the “Passing of the Peace” to participate in Children’s Faith Formation. Our volunteers and staff act as spiritual mentors\, rather than teachers. They welcome the children into a positive\, loving\, fun\, and safe space to encounter the sacred on their own terms. Through age-appropriate\, Bible-based activities—including arts and crafts\, drama\, stories\, songs\, discussion\, and spiritual practices—children encounter God\, learn about Jesus\, and explore what their faith means to them.

SUMMARY:Action Center Volunteer Day
DESCRIPTION:We will be sorting and organizing donated clothing by size and gender from 9 am until noon. We did this last summer\, and it was a real success! We had about 25 volunteers of all ages from the church\, and it was a lot of fun! Plan to meet at the Action Center at 9 am. The Action Center is located just east of Garrison on 14th Avenue at 8755 W. 14th Ave\, Lakewood. Sign up at the Welcome Center to participate. Contact: Len Ewald.
