DESCRIPTION:We will be honoring all the saints in our lives in two ways. You are invited to email a photo of a “saint” from your life to Rev. Mollie (mollie@lakewooducc.com) by Wednesday\, October 28. We will be using these as part of our All Saints Day worship. Please include their name. On Sunday\, November 1\, we will also be building two altars outside the church\, one in front of the church\, one in the courtyard on All Saints Day. You are encouraged to bring a photo\, a memento\, that reminds you of a “saint” from your life who has impacted your life. By building a communal altar\, we will be honoring the saints and ancestors who have come before us\, who influence and impact us and our world. Please consider bringing your photo or memento to the altars outside the church building as we remember the great cloud of witnesses.

DESCRIPTION:Over the next few months\, we will have the opportunity to gather for Outdoor Evening Prayer Services! These short\, 20-minute services will be a way for us to be together in person\, to pray and hear music\, and to share in God’s presence together. We will gather one last time onThursday\, October 29. In order to safely gather\, there will be a limit of 30 people at each service\, and due to the turnout of our services\, we have limited this event to one service per day\, provided at 6:30 pm. DESCRIPTION:In July\, we kicked off the Anti-Racism Book Club. This is an initiative by the Mission\, Outreach\, and Evangelism Board to better understand the role that race plays. We are reading sociological texts\, biographies\, and fiction by BIPOC authors. The group meets on the fourth Sunday of each month after worship; our next meeting will be on October 25 at 11:30 when we’ll be discussing Me and White Supremacy by Layla Saad. DESCRIPTION:We have another Face to Faith Intergenerational Event this Saturday\, October 24 from 3-4 pm. Our theme of celebration will include a Halloween contactless trunk-or-treating and games! We are encouraging everyone to dress up! This event of community building\, faith\, and fun will be planned and led by our youth and trusted adults from the congregation. \nDue to COVID-19\, registration is required\, as are masks and social distancing. While we’re trying to keep this event smallish due to COVID\, if you have a friend or neighbor you want to invite\, please do. Thanks and hope to see you Saturday! \n \nHumans in Costumes and Vehicles needed for Trunk or Treat on October 24! \nYAC and Faith Formation are hosting a Halloween intergenerational event on October 24\, with trunk or treating as the main event. Trunk or treating is when people gather in a parking lot\, decorate the trunks of their cars\, and contactless hand out goodies as kids “trick or treat” from car to car. We will be spread out\, masked\, and taking all the precautions. This will be a real treat for our families. DESCRIPTION:This upcoming Sunday\, October 4\, we will be participating in the Neighbors in Need Offering. With this\, we join with other UCC Churches in our commitment to this Special Mission Offering\, which contributes to the 5 for 5 Offerings. One-third of contributions to The Neighbors in Need Offering supports the Council for American Indian Ministry. Two-thirds of this offering is used by the UCC’s Justice and Witness Ministries to support a variety of justice initiatives\, advocacy efforts\, and direct service projects through grants. This year the Neighbors in Need offering will pay special attention to projects focusing on serving our immigrant neighbors and communities.  Again\, this offering will take place on October 4th\, as part of World Communion Sunday. You can contribute to it by marking the memo field on your check with “Neighbors in Need”; you’ll also be able to find a dropdown labeled “UCC National Special Offering” within tithe.ly.  We can do a lot to alleviate the trouble in this world. We hope you’ll join us.

SUMMARY:OWL is Taking Flight Again!
DESCRIPTION:Our Whole Lives\, a comprehensive sexuality education program\, will take flight again. Our 4th and 5th graders had to stop the program in March\, with five sessions to go\, as OWL cannot yet be offered online. Now 5th and 6th graders\, we’re re-gathering (with masks\, outside and distanced) to finish our five sessions. While we know sexuality education is a life-long endeavor\, it will be so good to finish our program and celebrate! OWL is facilitated by Leah Shapiro and Rev. Mollie. We hope to offer other age group curriculums in the future – see Rev. Mollie if interested.
