SUMMARY:Anti Racism Book Group
DESCRIPTION:Last summer\, when the George Floyd protests were still happening in many cities\, the Mission\, Outreach\, and Evangelism Board set out to offer the Anti Racism Book Group as a resource for our congregation to learn more. The books we have been reading have all been by Black authors\, talking about the Black experience with a range of perspectives: from deeply personal to deliberately heuristic. These have allowed those within the group to have rich conversations about our own life experiences and examine what it means to take steps from “I’m not racist” to “I live in a world that still has racist systems in place\, so I want to be consciously anti-racist.” Reading and discussion can be great steps in that journey! We hope you’ll join us.\nThe upcoming schedule for the Anti-Racism Book Group is as follows: \nApril 22: Eloquent Rage – Brittney Cooper \nMay 27: The Nickel Boys – Colson Whitehead (Pulitzer Prize winner) \nJune 24: No Ashes in the Fire – Darnell Moore \nJuly 22: Caste – Isobel Wilkerson (Oprah Book Club Choice) \nAugust 26: Red at the Bone – Jacqueline Woodson (NY Times Bestseller)

SUMMARY:Faith Formation Comes Back to Sunday Mornings Once a Month!
DESCRIPTION:Faith Formation time for our elementary and pre-K kids is returning to a once-a-month Sunday morning time. We will be engaging in the Illustrated Ministry’s Beatitudes Curriculum\, all about Jesus’ words from the Sermon on the Mount (Blessed are the…).  We’ll have two lessons each month\, one will be through Zoom on Sunday morning\, with two Faith Formation Companions leading. The other will be in materials sent home (through snail mail) to families each month. The Sunday morning Zoom will happen simultaneously as our Sunday morning worship service. Our first Sunday morning Faith Formation Zoom will be February 21. A separate link will be emailed to parents and caregivers – please let Rev. Mollie know if you need the link.\nWe’re excited and grateful to continue to evolve and adapt to the needs of young ones and families\, as Faith Formation happens at church\, at home\, in the car\, and just about everywhere!

SUMMARY:Drive-In Ashes 2 Go
DESCRIPTION:February\, 17 11:00 am-1:00 pm and 4:00 -6:00 pm\nNeighbors and congregants\, newcomers and long-timers are all welcome for our drive-in or walk-up to Ashes 2 Go this Ash Wednesday\, February 17\, at Lakewood UCC\, in the parking lot. The imposition of ashes is a physical reminder that “from dust we have come\, and to dust we will return.” While seemingly somber\, this is a chance for us to be honest with God and ourselves\, we are here on this earth for just a short time and ponder how we will live. For the care and safety of all\, each person will receive ashes from an individual container\, masks are required\, and the pastors will be hand sanitizing between each person. Please reach out with any questions. We will offer a pre-recorded service on our YouTube channel (please link to our YouTube Channel)\, available anytime Ash Wednesday. You can also pick up a container of ashes\, to share with your household during the service\, if you prefer.\n\nAsh Wednesday Service Now Available\nWe are so excited to see you all for our Drive-In Ashes 2 Go event! We are excited to announce that our Ash Wednesday Service is now live and available for you on our YouTube Channel (Just click the link below!). SUMMARY:Anti Racism Book Group
DESCRIPTION:In November\, the Anti-Racism Book Group met to discuss our latest book and our plans for the coming months!  What we’ve found in the past few months is that some books require a bit more time and energy to read. Due to the Congregational Meeting\, the Anti-Racism Book Group will be meeting on January 31 this month after worship. We’ll be digging further into ‘Me and White Supremacy’ by Layla Saad. Please note that reading this book also involves journaling about your experiences with race. We hope to see you there! If you haven’t yet come to an Anti-Racism Book Group meeting but the topic interests you\, I would invite you to jump in with this book! Also – MOE has purchased two copies of each of the books for the rest of the schedule\, so you’ll be able to grab a copy at church.. You don’t have to come to every book group meeting; we hope you’ll join us for the discussion of any book you find intriguing!
