This is truly for all ages! The birds are returning to their summer homes in Colorado. Join Len Ewald and Paul Michalec on a birding expedition. This is a chance to learn about some local avian friends and share a walk with some Lakewood UCC members. On Friday\, May 12\, at 7:00 pm\, Len and Paul will host an optional Birding 101 Session at the church. The intent is to introduce the basics of birding and to learn a few facts about local bird residents. Then on Saturday\, May 13\, at 8:00 am\, Len and Paul will lead a walk around Main Reservoir (Florida and Kipling)\, the parking lot just west of the Starbucks across from the King Soopers. No previous experience is needed. Binoculars are helpful but not necessary. If you can’t make the Friday session you are still welcome to join the Saturday walk. DESCRIPTION:Join us with Together Colorado for a legislative update with special guest\, Thomas Weiler! Thomas Weiler is the lead organizer with Together Colorado. He lives in Denver and is a husband and father of two. Thomas has been organizing since 2012 and has worked as a labor organizer with SEIU105 in\nColorado\, and faith-driven community organizations in the Faith in Action network to help families put their faith into action by identifying and addressing the systemic roots of injustice. Thomas will update Lakewood UCC members on legislative priorities and how our faith voices can make a\nthe difference on important issues like immigration\, affordable housing\, and climate issues.

DESCRIPTION:Thanks to our new technology in the conference room\, this offering will be available both in person (at the church) or via Zoom on Tuesdays from 6:30 pm- 8:00 pm\, beginning February 28 – March 28. This year we’ll be reading Rest is Resistance: A Manifesto by Tricia Hershey.\n\nIn Rest Is Resistance\, Tricia Hersey\, aka the Nap Bishop\, casts an illuminating light on our troubled relationship with rest and how to imagine and dream our way to a future where rest is exalted. Our worth does not reside in how much we produce\, especially not for a system that exploits and dehumanizes us. Rest\, in its simplest form\, becomes an act of resistance and a reclaiming of power because it asserts our most basic humanity. We are enough. The systems cannot have us. DESCRIPTION:Last year\, we asked our Lakewood UCC congregation to donate each week in Lent to a selected group of organizations. This Lenten season\, we are focused on the theme of “Displacement.” A person or family that is displaced means they have been expelled\, deported\, or impelled to flee from their country of nationality or habitual residence by the forces or consequences of war or oppression. \nWe are kicking off our Lenten Drives on Sunday\, February 26\, with Casa De Paz. For two weeks\, we will be collecting shoelaces and men’s new underwear for the organization. \nOn Sunday\, March 5\, Alondra Flores\, a Casa de Paz Representative will speak about Casa de Paz and their mission

DESCRIPTION:Join us in person or online for our Ash Wednesday service with Communion and the Imposition of Ashes. Ash Wednesday is the start of Lent\, with the physical reminder that we have come from ash and to ash we will return. Join us for this meaningful service. Communion elements will be provided for this service\, childcare will be available\n\nAshes-2-Go: 11:00 am-1:00 pm: Swing by the westside church parking lot to receive your ashes. They will be available to take home with you or you can receive the imposition of ashes on your forehead or hand. Ash Wednesday is the start of Lent\, with the physical reminder that we have come from ash and to ash we will return. Please be in touch with Rev. SUMMARY:Pancake Supper
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a celebration of revelry and abundance on Tuesday\, February 21 from 5-7. Sometimes called Fat or Shrove Tuesday\, sometimes known as Mardi Gras\, this is traditionally the time to eat all of the fat and sugar in your home and be merry before the Lenten time of fasting of some sort. At Lakewood UCC\, we’ll celebrate with pancakes (thank you Fellowship!) and community. Faith Formation Board will offer a craft that can be used throughout Lent to support Spiritual Practice(s). We’ll also have ashes and a simple liturgy available to take home\, for folks who want to engage in that ritual at home on Ash Wednesday\, February 22.

SUMMARY:Congregations Alive: Climate Justice!
DESCRIPTION:Congregations Alive\, the biennial conference of the Rocky Mountain UCC\, is happening Thursday\, February 23 through Saturday\, February 25\, 2023\, at First Plymouth UCC in Englewood. The theme this year is Climate Justice. The conference will feature keynote talks by the Rev. Dr. Jim Antal\, climate advisor to the UCC President\, and the Rev. Peter Sawtell\, retired Executive Director of Eco-Justice Ministries. Both speakers will focus on the church’s calling to address the climate crisis theologically\, pastorally\, and practically.  There will also be 15 diverse workshops around the theme of climate justice. Pre-registration is required and is open until February 16.  As we have more than four persons attending from Lakewood UCC\, you can register at a reduced rate. Please click HERE for more! SUMMARY:Save the Date: Congregational Meeting
DESCRIPTION:All are invited to attend our congregational meeting following worship on Sunday\, January 29\, 2023. The purpose of this meeting is to vote on the proposed 2023 budget as well as review and vote on the proposed bylaws changes. This meeting will be a hybrid meeting. This means that people can attend by being physically present in the sanctuary as well as attending virtually via Zoom. Virtual participants will be able to ask questions\, vote\, and speak on the various agenda items up for discussion. Please keep an eye out for the email sent on Tuesday\, January 17\, and the email to be sent on the Saturday before the meeting (Saturday\, January 28) for the information needed to review before the meeting\, as well as the Zoom link to join.
