SUMMARY:Summer Film Series 2019: Julie & Julia
DESCRIPTION:An annual staple of our summer adult education offerings has been the Summer Film Series. This year our series will focus on cinematic answers to the question\, “What’s the point of life?” In each film\, the protagonist is struggling with a version of this question. Some are funny. Some are sad. All will help us engage the questions of life\, death\, and what we do with what we’ve been given in between.\n\n \n\nAugust 26\n\nJulie & Julia (PG-13)\n\nIn 1949\, Julia Child (Meryl Streep) is in Paris\, the wife of a diplomat\, wondering how to spend her days. She tries hat-making\, bridge\, and then cooking lessons at Cordon Bleu. There she discovers her passion. In 2002\, Julie Powell\, (Amy Adams) is about to turn 30 and is underemployed with an unpublished novel. She decides to cook her way through “Mastering the Art of French Cooking” in a year and to blog about it. We go back and forth between these stories of two women learning to cook and finding success. Sympathetic\, loving husbands support them both\, and friendships\, too\, add zest.\n\n \n\n\n\n
