SUMMARY:Fall Kick-Off
DESCRIPTION:Summer tends to be the sleepy season at Lakewood UCC. School lets out\, people go on vacation\, and church activities shift down a gear. Everything just moves a little slower. Aaah. Hopefully by now though\, everyone’s feeling rested and eager to get going again. We’ll kick off our Fall season on September 11 with our choirs back in action and a celebratory potluck after the service. You don’t need to sign up—just bring whatever you fancy. Our youth group\, YAC\, will have its own kick-off the following week.

DESCRIPTION:FAITH TALK \n1 Kings 6\, 8: “Building the temple”\nTalk about the Bible story that that children explored this week. Here are some ways to nurture faith at home based on this week’s story.\n1.    Read 1 Kings 8:22–23 as a prayer.\n2.    The temple was a place of worship. Solomon spread his hands toward heaven to pray. Use your body to show different ways to pray.\nPrayer for the week: Thank you\, God\, for places where we can worship you. Thank you that you hear our prayers wherever we are.\n\nOn most Sundays\, pre-K through 6th grade children start in worship and then leave for Sunday School during the “Passing of the Peace.” Our volunteer teachers\, or Spiritual Mentors\, welcome the children into a positive\, loving\, fun\, and safe space. Through age-appropriate arts and crafts\, drama\, creative writing\, discussion and play that is grounded in Bible stories and spiritual practices\, children encounter God\, learn about Jesus\, and begin the journey of discovering how to live as thoughtful and engaged Christians.
