It’s fun to stick around after Sunday worship, sipping coffee and chatting with your fellow Lakewood UCCers, right? But you don’t get much time to socialize before everyone goes their separate ways. So what’s the solution? Out-to-Lunch Bunch! Everyone is invited to join us after the service at a local restaurant as we eat a good meal and get to know each other better. This month we will be meeting at the Garrison St. Grill. Contact: Marcia Forney.

Every year, for one day, more than 250 restaurants in the Denver and Boulder areas donate 25% of their proceeds to Project Angel Heart, an organization that provides meals for people suffering from HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening illnesses. You’re invited to be a part of the Lakewood UCC contingent that will be dining out at Chad’s Grill (275 Union Blvd.) to support this worthy cause. Make sure to sign up at the Welcome Center. Join us for an overnight at the church full of games, music, movies, and making YAC-aritos (breakfast burritos to sell, as a fundraiser for Western Regional Youth Event). We might even sleep a little (we will definitely sleep a little)! This promised to be a fun night at the church, come around 7:00 pm on Saturday for dinner, bring a snack to share. See Mollie with questions or to volunteer to be the second adult.
On April 14, 2018, we will once again take to the streets of Denver in support of the March for Science. We are planning to meet in the NE corner of Civic Center Park at 9:30, although music and speakers will begin at 9:00. Please contact Matt Teeuwen at (470) 261-1088 or email@example.com for more information and/or to coordinate carpooling. We will have Care For Creation t-shirts available for purchase prior to the march. They should be available by Easter and will cost approximately $15.00.
Palm Sunday brings the annual brunch we all love and enjoy! All are welcome to come and partake, and you may bring a dish to share if you choose. Just remember all dishes must contain no nuts of any kind! As promised, we rotate folks alphabetically to an assigned dish. If your name begins with: A-F – bring a salad; G-M – bring a dessert; N-Z – bring a main dish. We look forward to seeing you for this fun, family-friendly tradition.
On Holy Thursday, sometimes called “Maundy Thursday,” we recall the Last Supper, as well as the betrayal and arrest of Jesus. The word “Maundy” is rooted in the Latin word “mandatum” which means: “to give, to entrust, to order.” According to John’s gospel, on the night of the last supper, Jesus gives his disciples a commandment: “that you love one another; even as I have loved you, you also ought to love one another” (John 13:34).
Tenebrae means “Service of Shadows”, and is marked by 12 readings of scripture by candle light and punctuated with music. After each reading, one candle is extinguished and the sanctuary becomes progressively darker, concluding with complete darkness. This is often regarded as one of the most powerful worship services of the year. The Frugal Meal and Worship are each a separate event, so feel free to come to one or both of these offerings.
