Sunday, January 21, 10:15 am

When Jesus called the disciples, he didn’t call just one type of person. He called fishermen, a tax collector, and a religious fanatic among others. He welcomed folks from all walks of life into his inner circle. Jesus seems to have some wisdom about how best to build a community and a movement. Encouraging rich diversity within the group seems to be an important part of it. Join us this Sunday as Pastor Curt preaches on how diversity is an important part of the church and how it always has been.

Sunday, January 14, 10:15 am

Join us for a very exciting Sunday worship service where Associate Pastor Candidate Rev. Mollie Landers Hatt will be preaching. In John’s Gospel, we’ll read the story of the call of Philip and Nathanael who were invited to follow Jesus and “come and see” who this Jesus of Nazareth is. How do we respond to God’s call in our life? How do we respond to God’s call in the lives of others? We’ll explore God’s invitation in our lives and world today.

Join us as we consider what it means at the turning of the year to truly embody the light of Christ. We will begin the service with a Hymn Sing of Christmas carols and end it with candlelight. Our budding Lakewood UCC worship band will lead the music. We offer special thanks to the ad hoc worship team from Care for Creation and Building and Grounds for their leadership in the service.

We tend to think of Mary as meek and mild. But the truth is she is anything but. It took her a few minutes to adjust to the news that she was going to be the means by which God would enter the world in a new way. But once she got over the shock, she boldly stepped forward with prophetic power. Join us this Sunday as we celebrate the 3rd Sunday of Advent with fearless joy at the coming of Christ at Christmas. #FearNot #Joy.

Sunday, December 10, 10:15 am

When Joseph learned Mary was pregnant his first thought was to “dismiss her quietly.” He didn’t want to expose her to unnecessary shame. But he didn’t want to marry her either. Then an angel came to him in a dream and said, “do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife.” This is week two of our Advent series #FearNot, with this week’s focus on peace. Where do we find it? How do we achieve it? What does peace look and feel like? Join us this Sunday as Pastor Curt preaches on finding peace in the midst of change, turmoil, and unrest. #FearNot #Peace

Sunday, December 3, 10:15 am

Advent is a time of hopeful expectations as we await the rebirth of the Christ Child at Christmas. Over the next few weeks, we’ll reflect together on the importance of our faith in the face of events and situations that might cause us to be fearful. Again and again throughout our scriptures, we hear the words “Do not be afraid.” Join us this Sunday as Pastor Curt preaches on why we can still have hope in midst of troubling and frightening times. #FearNot #Hope

Here at Lakewood UCC, we are experiencing worship music in new ways. This Sunday, we have invited local jazz group Second Acts to our congregation to share their gifts of music in worship. We look forward to welcoming Second Acts as they share their gifts with our church community.
