Special Services

A “special service” is any service that’s a bit out-of-the-ordinary. Like one where we’re worshiping in the contemplative Taizé style, with lots of silence and simple, repetitive music. Or one where we’re being led by folks from the congregation instead of by our Pastors. Or one where we celebrating a special event in the church calendar. For more on our recurring special services, see the list below.

Worship in the Park Worship in the Park
10:15 a.m. on a Sunday in August
The one Sunday of the year when there’s no service at 100 Carr Street. Instead we meet at a park in Wheat Ridge for a gospel sing-along, worship service, and picnic with root beer floats.
World Communion World Communion Sunday
10:15 a.m. on the first Sunday in October
Together with Christians of all denominations, we celebrate the unity of the worldwide Church with this globally-minded (and occasionally multi-lingual) worship service.
Advent Advent
10:15 a.m. on the four Sundays before Christmas
For Christians, Advent is the four-week period of waiting and preparation leading up to Christmas Day. Every Sunday we light another candle (Hope, Peace, Love, Joy) on our Advent wreath, symbolizing the light of Christ growing brighter.
Christmas Eve Christmas Eve
4:00 p.m. Intergenerational Service
7:00 Pre-service Christmas Music; 7:30 p.m. Service
Instead of meeting on Christmas Day, we celebrate the birth of Christ the day before with a late afternoon service and a traditional evening candlelight service and carols. The church is always packed, so come early!
Ash Wednesday Ash Wednesday
7:00 p.m. on the seventh Wednesday before Easter
Ash Wednesday is the beginning of the Lenten season of prayer and fasting. At our service, we will share communion and you’ll be invited to receive a mark of ashes on your forehead, remembering the words of Genesis 3:19: “You are dust, and to dust you shall return.”
Palm Sunday Palm Sunday
10:15 a.m. on the Sunday before Easter
When Jesus rode into Jerusalem, he was greeted by cheering crowds who laid down palm branches in front of his donkey. We celebrate this event, the beginning of “Holy Week,” with a palm processional during our worship service and a big brunch afterward.
Maundy Thursday Maundy Thursday
Simple Supper at 6:00 p.m., Tenebrae Service at 7:30 p.m. on the Thursday before Easter
We remember Jesus’ final days and his descent into darkness with a simple supper followed by a Tenebrae Service that portray the falling off of the disciples as each disciples candle is extinguished one by one until the Sanctuary is complete dark.

Easter Sunday Easter Sunday
6:00 a.m.- Easter Sunrise Service
10:15 a.m.  Easter Service

Christ is risen! Christ is risen indeed! Join us as we celebrate the one whom even death could not defeat.
Pentecost Pentecost
10:15 a.m. on the seventh Sunday after Easter
At Pentecost, we remember the beginning of the Christian Church, when the Holy Spirit descended on the followers of Jesus like tongues of fire. Since that’s kind of hard to replicate, we make do by wearing red to our worship service.
