Cinco de Mayo is observed to commemorate the Mexican Army‘s unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862 during the French and Mexican War.  The ragtag Mexican Army was significantly outnumbered by a better equipped French Army twice its size.  As Time magazine remarked, “The Puebla victory came to symbolize unity and pride for what seemed like a Mexican David defeating a French Goliath.”  While the holiday is rather insignificant in Mexico, it has become a celebration of Mexican culture in the United States. We will celebrate on Sunday, May 7th for our all church Fellowship.  Please sign-up to participate with mini tacos, empanadas, cookies or chips and dip.
