Connections with
Others...
We have a group called Good Grief! for people who are seeking support dealing with their grief journeys. This provides opportunities for fellowship with others who are traveling the same path. For all who can come during the day, the group meets on the first Thursday of each month at 10:00 a.m. in the church Conference Room. All who are interested are welcome! Again, there is eating - once a month, an after- church lunch bunch gathers and goes to a nearby restaurant. Occasionally there are side trips planned, like a trip to the Butterfly Pavilion. They have started a list for those able to offer assistance to others needing help with food preps, transportation, small household tasks, and whatever else might occur that some cannot readily do for themselves.
You Are Not Alone: An Introduction to Issues of Mental Health: Beginning
Series
Did you know that 1 in 4 families deals with issues related to mental health, either directly or indirectly? Lakewood UCC has begun a Mental Health Awareness Ministry seeking to raise aware-ness, and to provide support and advocacy within the congregation and larger community. The first program was held on Friday, October 8, called "You Are Not Alone: An Introduction to Issues of Mental Health." The speaker was Dr. Kathy Baur from the Jefferson Center for Mental Health. She has facilitated workshops and training at the local, state, and national level on a variety of topics, and is currently a Wellness Specialist for Jefferson Center for Mental Health's Wellness Now! program. A Q & A session followed the presentation and light refreshments were provided. More programs will be planned for the future.
